Monday, May 26, 2008 8:00 pm (Blue Monday) featuring JoAnn Allen Boyce, Professional Jazz Singer and Clinton 12 student and Doug Davis, Composer and Head of the Music Department – Cal State, Fullerton (originally from Clinton, TN), Historic Ritz Theater (Only Ticketed Event - $25 reception and concert, $10 concert only)

JoAnn began her singing career as a child, singing in the choir of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church (and in duets with her sister). After moving to Los Angeles, she, her sister, and cousin teamed up to form "The Debs." "We sang on stage and made a couple of records (45’s) that were heard mostly back east”. Their then manager was Robert "Bumps" Blackwell, the manager of singer Sam Cooke. It was an exciting time in their lives. They still wow friends and family with their incredible ability to harmonize with each other. The group disbanded when (JoAnn) took on the marital role. In 1994, she began her singing career again, this time solo and instead of R&B, she became a “jazz singer.” She fulfilled a passionate dream of singing on stage in one of the most famous cabarets in Los Angeles, the Cinegrill in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. This was “the place” for both well established super stars and singers who were not as well known, but had a passion for the arts. JoAnn has performed in multiple cabarets and several “shows” and also has performed at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Even though she is not performing professionally anymore, singing is a gift that that she will never give up "because it is God given". Besides the gift of singing, she is also a published poetry writer.
